Thursday Morning Science

This 12-week session
​starts September 7 and ends December 14. 
(excludes Oct 12, Nov 9, 23)

8:30am-11:45pm
$350
​It is for ages 4 and up. 
We will be doing STEAM activities at AWE on the following topics: 
1. GOAL 2.5 Biodiversity -Bug Vacuum, Miss Rumptious, Wildflowers, Seed Dispersal, hammered flower prints, Berlese funnel 
2. GOAL 14.1 Pollutants we can see- Density column, water pollutants, egg float, oil spill, garbage patch, straw experiment 
3. TARGET 14.3 Pollutants we can’t see- Ocean Acidification, pH of different substances, Microplastic filter, Case of the contaminated creek
4. TARGET 14.2 Conservation & Biodiversity of Marine Life- Turbidity, Nurdles, Chemotaxis, physics of water molecules, build a submarine, dissect a squid
5. TARGET 12.2 What are Natural Resources- Cookie mining, types of rocks, Eggshell geodes, Chia pet rock, fossil fuels, biotic and abiotic
6. Geology- Play Doh Stratigraphy, Hydrogel crystals, topographical maps

7. Nutrition, Kinesiology, Exercise, and Healthy Choices- Body Systems, Lung Model, measure muscle flection with electrodes, Brain spikerbox 
8. TARGET 3.4 Protection and Treatment-  Blood clotting experiment, build a Stethoscope 
9.
TARGET 11.2 Sustainable Transportation- Electromagnetic train, mono polar motor, Build a solar updraft tower, 
10. TARGET 11.2 Sustainable Transportation- Steam powered cars, air powered car, build a hot air balloon 
11. TARGET 11.2 Sustainable Transportation - Biofuels, mechanical energy, alternative energy, yeast fermentation, flaming colors of fireworks
12. Engineering Challenge Finale

Thursday Afternoon Science

This 12-week session
starts September 7 and ends December 14.

12:00pm-4:00pm 
$400
It is for middle/high school students only. 
We will be going on field trips each day to different places in Southeast Louisiana including 12 of the following: 
  1. Green Project- recycle paint and art
  2. Sugar roots farm
  3. Sankofa- water samples 
  4. Audubon nature preserve
  5. Couturier forest
  6. Jean Lafitte National Park
  7. Canoeing - at Lumcon
  8. Grand Isle Beach
  9. Botanical Gardens
  10. Beanlandia
  11. Audubon Zoo
  12. Audubon Aquarium and Insectarium
  13. Stennis NASA museum
  14. Community sailing

Transportation will be provided.  You will drop off your explorer at AWE at 12pm, and the return time will depend on the trip.

Friday Morning Science

This 12-week session
​starts September 8 and ends December 15.

8:30am-11:45pm
$350
​It is for ages 7 and up. 
We will be doing STEAM activities at AWE on the following topics: 
      FALL:
1. Dirt and Plants - Soil, Plants, Seeds, Photosynthesis, Trees, Compost, Decomposers, Plants, Animals, People, and create a new plant species 
2. Ecosystems and Ecology- Ecosystems, Symbiotic Relationships, Natural Resources, Environmental Changes, Caring for the Earth, Design your own Ecosystem
3. Magnetism and Electricity - Power of magnets, experimenting with magnets, Magnetic fields, magnetic action, magnetism on Earth, Exploring Electricity, Conductors and Circuits, Motors and Batteries, Products of Electricity, Sources of Electricity, Magnetism and Electricity 
​      SPRING: 
4. Forces of Nature - Physics and Force, Friction, Laws of Motion, Gravity, Projectiles, Energy, Pressure and Force Change the Environment
5. Rocks and Minerals -Minerals, Rocks, Crystals, Volcanoes, Earthquakes, Fossils, Paleontologist 
6. Animal Adaptations - Why do animals adapt, Adapting to climate, Living in the Dark, Hiding out, Finding food and Taking care of Babies, Protections, Aquatic Adaptions, Adapting to Humans, Creating a new Species
